MIRI: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the hugely popular annual Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) Internship and Placement Fair is going online this year.

It will be held for five days from Oct 19 to Oct 23, allowing students and alumni of Curtin Malaysia, as well as other job-seekers in the community, to connect with over 50 participating employers.

They will be able to get valuable insights into the companies, many of which are leading names in regional commerce and industry in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, and the career opportunities they offer, including internships, graduate programmes and both part-time and full-time job placements.

Curtin Malaysia’s Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Beena Giridharan said that the Curtin Malaysia fair remains very relevant despite the global pandemic.

She said the number of participating employers has increased by 50 percent since last year, showing that the job market still looks positive.

“Though openings may be limited compared to previous years, there are still job opportunities for new graduates and internship openings for students, and while some employers might not be hiring immediately, they are scouting for suitable talent for the immediate future,” Giridharan commented.

Giridharan said a virtual fair has its advantages whereby job-seekers can participate at their leisure anytime from anywhere in the world.

“Most of our students and alumni are spread across Malaysia and the world right now, in their home towns and cities, due to the pandemic. Despite this, they can still actively seek work and internship opportunities during the fair,” she said.

The fair’s website will feature pages with profiles of the participating companies, the positions they are offering, hiring criteria and procedures, and contact details.

Participants can contact the companies directly or engage with their representatives live on various online platforms such as webinars or chatrooms.

Those interested to participate in the fair can pre-register now by completing and submitting the online registration form at career.curtin.edu.my/ipf2020registrationform/. There is no participation fee.
