MUKAH: Regular customers who missed their favourite food and drinks when coffee shops were closed during the movement control order (MCO) enforced since March 18 are now back at the dining tables as eateries have been allowed to operate under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

It may be a relief to some as the regular customers can again enjoy what they had missed in the last two months or so.

Their presence was also a big relief to coffee shop owners as their businesses are gradually returning to normal.

An observation by New Sarawak Tribune found that a few coffee shops here yesterday seemed to have customers enjoying their favourite food and drinks care free despite the enforcement of CMCO.

A customer who is in his 60s, identified only as Lasang, was among the regular patrons at a popular coffee shop in the old town here.

Lasang, who is also a hawker at the pasar tamu expressed how he missed his favourite fried and soup mee when the coffee shop was closed during the MCO.

“It’s good that this coffee shop and others are now allowed to operate so that we can enjoy our favourite food or drinks,” he said.

At the New Mukah Township, the scenario was quite similar for a nearby coffee shop.

Three regular customers, seated in the middle of the shop with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place, were seen enjoying their favourite drinks and toasted bread.

The trio were in their usual happy mood while talking and enjoying their drinks at the coffee shop, famous for ice cendol.

They said there were happy that coffee shops were allowed to operate even though they had to adhere to the SOPs.

“It’s good and alright for us as long as we follow the SOPs ,” the senior citizens said.

Owners of the two coffee shops were even happier when customers returned and patronised their outlets.

“I am happy now because I can resume my business … if not I would be in difficulty financially,” said one of the coffee shop owners.
