MIRI: A lorry carrying contraband liquor was seized by the Customs Department here.

State Customs director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha said the lorry was discovered at Jalan Spring, Lutong last Sunday at 6.15am following a tipoff.

Some 3,140 litres of liquor estimated at RM49,307.09 in unpaid tax, including the lorry worth around RM25,728, were transported back to the Customs store for further investigation.

The vehicle is believed to be used to deliver the contraband to premises around Miri city.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.
