Customs exceeds revenue target

KUCHING: The state Royal Malaysian Customs Department’s revenue collection has exceeded its target by 101.2 percent as of April this year.

Its director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha said the state custom department managed to amass a total of RM1.087 billion, a collection higher than a year earlier up till April 30.

As such, the Sales and Service Tax (SST) and income tax recorded an achievement of 124.8 percent up until April 2019.

“This achievement was achieved through the efforts and hard work executed by its officers through six operations carried out in January, towards increasing the department’s revenue.

“The compliance division have also successfully issued 34 Bill of Demand (BOD) involving a claim of RM17,426,493.80,” she said in her opening remark during the department’s assembly at Wisma Kastam yesterday.

Also present was the department’s Internal Tax Division Assistant General Director Datuk Ahmad Maher Abd Jalil.

She stressed that all divisions should continue to ensure that the achievement of state’s revenue collection not only achieves the target set but exceeding the said target.

“Congratulations on the success and excellence of revenue collection to help the department achieve its Key Performance Index (KPI).”

Meanwhile, Ahmad Maher said the country have lost billions of ringgit through traders who have registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system but yet to submit their GST 03 statements.

“We have about 200,000 registered GST traders nationwide who have yet to submit their statement involving a total of 90,000

companies.”

According to him, there is no due period for GST payments while GST claims have a deadline on Dec 29, 2018 and that the department also wants the GST-03 statement to be zero-rated.
