Customs seizes contrabands in raid

MIRI: The Miri Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) confiscated contraband cigarettes and beers worth RM6,537.22 with unpaid taxes amounting RM43,339.44 following a raid held on Wednesday morning.

According to JKDM state director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha, the raids were conducted at one of the premises in Permy Technology Park at around 11.20am.

“A total of 48,000 packs of cigarettes and 523.85 litres of beer were discovered hidden in the premises and were seized,” she added.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for possessing goods that have yet to be approved by Customs.
