Dance course attracts 14 teachers, students

KUCHING: Fourteen dance teachers and students are attending a 3-day Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus dance course organised by Sarawak Dance Sport Association (SDA) here from 12 to 14 May.

The participants have the opportunity to be exposed and gain theoretical and practical knowledge in Country Western Line dance, Disco, Rock & Roll & Freestyle dances as well as Viennese Waltz from the course conducted by ISTD Fellow John Chong who is also the Malaysia Dance Sport Federation Sports Director.

The participants were also given an insight into the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) judging system and basic knowledge on competition adjudicating. Thus participants can have better understanding on competition and judging aspects of the various dance genres.

SDA president, Chester Lim said that part of the association activities is to organise dance courses for local dance teachers and dancers to upgrade their knowledge and skills and candidates have the choice to gain qualifications through sitting for the various levels of UK based ISTD examinations every year. This year the ISTD examinations will be held in October.

Lim also thanked Sarawak Dance Sport Association for the support for its activities and programmes from Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Sarawak Sports Council and Sarawak Youth and Sports Department.
