KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) is confused and cannot make up its mind on the choice of prime minister, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He was referring to the difference in choice among DAP leaders whereby national DAP leaders had announced support for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim while Sabah and Sarawak DAP were rooting for Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

“Whoever they want to support (for prime minister) is their business. Even on the post of prime minister, DAP is already confused and couldn’t make up their mind,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune on Friday (July 17).

Abdul Karim, who is also the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister as well as Youth and Sports Minister, was asked to comment on Sarawak DAP’s support for Shafie, who is also Sabah Chief Minister.

“DAP Malaya all supported Anwar for prime minister. DAP Sarawak however give their support to Shafie.

“Isn’t the post of prime minister for the whole of Malaysia? Why the confusion and difference in choice?” he questioned.

On Thursday (July 16), Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the state party had autonomy from the national body, and their support for Shafie showed Sarawak DAP was on the same page as their counterparts in Sabah, who had voiced similar support.

He added that with Shafie becoming prime minister, it would mean breaking the toxicity of racial and religious politics that had entrapped national politics for too long.
