KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) decided against working with the Democratic Action Party (DAP) because it is politically arrogant, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing.
He recalled that when the party’s secretary general Lim Guan Eng who was finance minister in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government said Sarawak would be bankrupt in three years, it was a massive blow to the GPS government.
“What he (Guan Eng) said as finance minister had a serious impact on the economic standing of Sarawak. The statement was dangerous to the state so we don’t want to deal with arrogant people,” he said.
The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president said in the case of the Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS), it only sought to gain support from the Malay community via their religion.
“Religion is something between you and your God. At the end of the day, it is you that finally decide (to accept or reject what was preached). However, DAP is different; they are politically very arrogant which is not healthy for the nation,” he said in a videotaped interview with a local news portal DayakDaily.
Masing said for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), it was the key to the formation of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government which was crucial at a time when the nation was without a government and was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Without GPS, there would not be a PN federal government; without GPS, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would not be prime minister. Without a prime minister, the country would have huge problems caused by Covid-19.
“We are lucky that we have a government of the day that managed Covid-19 and this was made possible by GPS,” he asserted.
