KUCHING: The DAP Sarawak state convention 2021, scheduled on May 1, has been postponed to a later date.

A new date will be announced in a few weeks’ time, said its chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

He said the postponement was due to the present rising Covid-19 cases in the state.

“The triennial Sarawak DAP Convention is supposed to be held on May 1, 2021 with the elections of the new state committee.

“All notices to the delegates and branches had been duly issued in compliance with the Party’s Constitution,” he said in a post on State DAP website.

Chong, who is also Stampin MP, said to reduce inter-district travels, the party had earlier actually decided to have the convention held concurrently via zoom at six different locations, namely, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Kapit and Sarikei.

“However, due to the risk of the present Covid-19 pandemic, the state committee had a zoom meeting last (Wednesday) night and decided to postpone the convention to a date to be decided later taking into consideration the development of the pandemic in Sarawak over the next few weeks,” the Kota Sentosa assemblyman said.
