KUCHING: The Head of State Tun Pehin Seri Abdul Taib Mahmud received a courtesy visit from Daro Mosque development committee led by Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad in Demak Jaya yesterday (Oct 29).
The purpose of the courtesy visit was to extend an invitation to Taib to officiate the opening of the new Daro mosque scheduled for Friday, Nov 5.
During the visit, the committee informed the Head of State that the construction of the mosque began in April 2019, but the progress was slightly delayed due to the implementation of movement control order (MCO) during the Covid-19 outbreak in the country in 2020.
The mosque, costing RM9.5 million, will be able to accommodate over 1,600 worshippers, aside from having its own lecture hall, dining hall as well as other facilities.
Also present during the visit were Sarawak Islamic Religious Department director Khalidi Ibrahim, Mukah Division Resident Hamdiah Bakir and Daro District Officer Bujang Rahman Seli.
