Ongoing SAR operation

SERIAN: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a missing 70-year-old man at Kampung Entayan Kerpok entered its third day today (Jan 17).

According to operation officer PPgB James Gani, the victim identified as Ngiang Tungkat had gone missing since Jan 11 and his in-law Isa Bada lodged a police reporter on Wednesday (Jan 15).

According to Isa, the victim went out to check on a fish trap across a small river at Kampung Tuie Kanan Salcra Melikin.

“When he went out, he did not carry any identification documents and wore a white shirt and brown shorts.

“He also has knee problems and needed a walking stick to walk,” the victim’s in-law said.

The search yesterday was divided into several groups with a one-kilometre search radius from the where the victim was believed to have gone missing. 

The operation was postponed at 5.30pm and will continue today.

A team of 10 firefighters were dispatched for the SAR operation.

Supporting them is a canine team of three members, six police personnel, eight Civil Defence Force personnel and 12 villagers.
