KUCHING: The DayakDaily’s D’Drift 2021 will cover three national parks and highlight issues discovered during the journey.

Sarawak Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that focusing on the three national parks would increase awareness about the destinations to encourage domestic as well as international tourism.

“Additionally, D’Drift 2021 is DayakDaily’s annual corporate social responsibility project sponsored by the ministry this year.

“Working closely with the ministry as well as Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), the team of three will start their journey from Kuching on Oct 11 and will return on Oct 20.”

He said this at the launch of the event here on Monday (Oct 11).

Commenting further, he hoped that the D’Drift 2021 team could use less visited roads and become a voice for the rural communities along the journey, reporting any issues.

“The media plays a significant role in promoting tourism and also report any shortcomings.

“Through this (reports), agencies that are looking after these places will be able to take note and together with the ministry, assist one another to see where we can improve ourselves.”

In line with this, Abdul Karim said the media would also be able to report and write on the beautiful places that Sarawak has to offer.

“In line with the Sia Sitok Sarawak campaign that was launched last year, we offer deals and discounts of up to 50 per cent to over 60 exciting attractions, tours and activities throughout Sarawak.

“This campaign is an effort by the ministry and agencies to actively promote domestic tourism.”

Furthermore, as police permits are no longer required by the travellers, he hoped to see the number of domestic tourists go up.
