KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) yesterday held its seventh monthly car free weekend.

It’s deputy director Mohamad Faisal Adenan said that the event is being held every month and for this month, the venue has been extended to five kilometres – an additional 1.5 kilometre – including Civic Centre, Amphitheatre and the Kuching Waterfront.

“This car free event is open to the local residents and for this event now, we are expecting between 2,500 to 3,000 people,” he told reporters at the Padang Merdeka here.

Faisal added that the event’s objectives were to enable the people to enjoy a clean, beautiful, safe, smart and sustainable atmosphere and DBKU has achieved all its plans.

“The event is open from 6.30 am to 10 am and this also enables the residents to have their morning exercise such as bicycling and aerobics without any interference from the traffic.

“We also don’t allow any food trucks to operate during this time because this is a recreational event,” he said.
