KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is confident that the 4th Sarawak Timber and SMEs Expo can generate direct sales of RM7 million, as targeted by the organisers.

He had witnessed on Thursday the signing of memorandums of understanding (MOUs) between the timber companies and their respective trading partners which, according to him, would be able to generate trade value of RM223 million.

“I think we have achieved that,” he said in his speech when attending the Gala Night and Exhibitor Night at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) Thursday.

The expo, which began on June 27, focuses on promoting timber and non-timber-based products as well as SMEs.

It also aims to provide a platform for producers and manufacturers to showcase and promote sales of their products as well as establish networking and attract potential local and foreign buyers and investors.

If it really achieves direct sales of RM7 million this year, then that will be RM2 million more than last year’s direct sales.
