KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar James Jemut Masing has expressed his concern over the situation at Kapit Hospital, which is running out of intensive care units (ICU) and facilities to treat Covid-19 patients.

Because of this, he stressed that the vaccine rollout needed to be expedited.

“Frontliners, nurses, doctors at Kapit Hospital are exhausted. They are trying their best.

“What is happening at Kapit Hospital now, will soon be similar to what we see in India where hundreds have died on hospital hallways.

“Which is why the only way to save Kapit and the rest of Sarawak is the vaccine,” he said on Monday (May 31).

He said the vaccine rollout should be the state and country’s number one priority, and “the faster the government can roll out the vaccine, the better”.

He added: “Putrajaya must assist Sarawak. Sarawak has the funds; we are willing to use them.

“Please don’t make economic considerations or red tapes as obstacles to save human lives. Don’t just talk. Do it!”

On another note, the Baleh assemblyman was sad after learning of the passing of the parents of his nephew Nicholas Kudi, who is also a political secretary to the Chief Minister.

Both of Nicholas’ parents died due to Covid-19 on Monday.
