SIBU: A 30-year-old who put the fear of death into another man was jailed 12 months today for criminal intimidation.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar handed the sentence after Wong Chin Soon of Bintangor pleaded guilty to committing the offence on Dec 2 last year.

The court was told that Wong had threatened to kill the 59-year-old while brandishing a machete.

Prosecutor ASP Linggi Tawi said at about 7pm on the said day Wong had burst into a house at Kampung Bahagia Selatan where the other man had gone to repair a lorry.

He hurled plates and bowls at the man’s truck and also a baseball bat over some dissatisfaction he had with him.

Wong who held a machete then chased him, sending the latter running for cover into the bushes nearby where he stayed out of sight until the police turned up about 30 minutes later.

Before leaving the place, Wong told the man, “If you make a police report and I am arrested, I will kill you”, while pointing the machete at him.

He was arrested on March 2 this year.

The offence was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or fine or both.
