KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing has lauded the decision to extend the school year to February by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

He also congratulated federal Senior Education Minister Dr Radzi Jidin for making the decision to make up for the loss of over 100 school days when the Covid-19 pandemic occurred last year.

“I fully agree with academician Dr Bity Salwana Alias from the Faculty of Education, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, who said that it was a wake-up call for both teachers and students.

“2020 was a lost cause that damaged our education system, particularly depriving our rural students of quality education,” he said on Wednesday (Sept 29).

The Sarawak Infrastructure and Port Development Minister reminded that education was not only about the 3Rs (Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic).

“It is the comradeship that students get in classroom learning. Therefore, classroom learning must take place when the opportunity allows.”
