KUCHING: Sarawak has recorded 3,522 Covid-19 cases today (Sept 13), almost two thousand fewer than the previous day’s cases (5,291), along with five fatalities.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said of the total, 3,518 or 99.89 percent comprised that of Categories 1 and 2 while four cases were from Category 5.

Kuching district reported the most cases at 1,221; followed Bintulu (382); Sibu (232); Serian (231; Miri (178); Lundu (110); Mukah (106); Pusa (84); Betong (82); Saratok (79); Asajaya (74); Sarikei (69; Sri Aman (68); Pakan (59); Subis (56); Sebauh (54); Lubok Antu (53); Samarahan (37; Limbang (35); Belaga and Kanowit (32 each).

Kapit and Bau districts recorded 31 cases each; Lawas (29); Tebedu (28); Beluru (20); Meradong and Selangau (19 cases each); Song (16); Dalat and Tatau (13 each); Bukit Mabong (12); Simunjan (eight); Matu and Tanjung Manis (three each); Julau (two); and one case in Telang Usan.

This brings the total number of positive cases in the state thus far to 160,320.

The SDMC said 2,477 of the new cases consisted of individuals who were close contacts to Covid-19 positive cases, while 304 cases involving individuals in existing clusters, 346 cases from the screening of symptomatic individuals in health facilities, 388 cases from other screening in health facilities.

It added there is one Import A case (those returning from the United Arab Emirates), and six Import B cases which are five returning from Sabah and one returning from Selangor.

The committee said there were 2,256 cases that recovered and were allowed to be discharged from the respective hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) statewide.

This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases to 118,209 or 73.73 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak. There are still 41,241 active cases.

On another note, the SDMC said that the five fatalities on Monday were from Sibu, Kuching, Bau, and Sri Aman.

The 626th death was of a 55-year-old local man from Sibu who was brought in dead (BID) to the Sibu Hospital. The case was tested positive on Sept 9 and had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, gout, and heart disease.

The 627th death involved an 86-year-old local man from Kuching who was tested positive on Sept 10. He was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and had a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cancer.

The 628th death was of an 85-year-old local man from Bau who had also been admitted to the SGH. He was tested positive on Sept 10 and had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Meanwhile, the 629th death involved a 64-year-old local woman from Kuching who was also admitted to the SGH. She was tested positive on Sept 11 and had a history of Autoimmune Diseases.

The final death recorded was that of a 54-year-old local woman from Sri Aman who was tested positive on Sept 11. She was admitted to Sri Aman Hospital and had a history of cancer.
