Decrease in Covid cases reported

KUCHING: The state registered 1,037 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (Oct 11) — a decrease of 95 cases compared to the previous day’s tally (1,132).

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 1,018 or 98.17 percent of the new cases were categories 1 and 2, while 19 cases fell on categories 3, 4 and 5.

“Of the new cases, 191 of them were recorded in Kuching, Miri with 175, Sibu (112), Sri Aman (61), Bintulu (57), Limbang (38), Pusa (36), Mukah (33), Serian (30), Saratok (30), Lawas (29), Betong (24), Kanowit (23), Sarikei (22), Bau (21), Samarahan (20), Lundu (20), Kapit (17), Dalat (16), Simunjan (11) and Meradong (11).

“Additionally, only single-digit cases were reported in Matu, Lubok Antu, Subis, Pakan, Tanjung Manis, Asajaya, Sebauh, Bukit Mabong, Telang Usan, Kabong, Tatau, Julau, Selangau, Beluru and Tebedu,” it said in its daily Covid-19 update.

SDMC said 12 backlog death cases related to Covid-19 infections were confirmed from October 4 to 9.

“The death cases consist of victims aged 50 to 82 from Samarahan, Sibu, Sri Aman, Miri Kuching, Betong and Serian divisions.

“Of the total, 11 of the victims had histories of chronic illnesses while one of them had no previous medical history,” it added.

The committee also announced the end of five Covid-19 clusters in the state, namely the Kampung Kakeng Cluster in Serian, Sungai Kerubong Cluster in Sarikei, Sungai Sujan Mapok Cluster in Sebauh, Sungai Dabai Cluster in Pakan and Laman Bong Chin Cluster in Kuching.

“No new cases were reported in these clusters for the past 28 days with the number of active clusters in the state now at 67.”
