SIBU: All markets under the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) will undergo deep cleansing on Saturday (March 12).

According to the Department of Veterinary Service Sarawak, all butchers have been advised to carry out general cleaning at their own stall and remove their belongings.

Any item or goods left behind after 9am will be considered as waste, refuse or unwanted material and will be disposed with no compensation.

All equipment and machinery are not allowed to be removed from the premises.

The deep and thorough cleaning and washing at all stalls will be done from 9am to 12pm and the disinfection will be done from 2pm to 4pm.

Earlier the SMC abattoir was instructed to close for 60 days from March 9 after pigs were found to be infected by the African Swine Fever (ASF).
