LIMBANG: The Bisaya community in this country must always defend their unique identity and at the same time continue to strengthen relations with other ethnic groups in Sarawak.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, cultural identity, language and customs should always be practised in order to preserve the heritage.

“The changes brought about by modernisation sometimes make some of us forget our identity,” he said during the Babulang Cultural Festival 2019 at Kampung Batu Danau here on Friday.

“We want the mutual understanding among races in Sarawak to be at its best today,” he said.

“Programmes conducted such as the Babulang Festival is the best platform to introduce the culture and the uniqueness of the Bisaya community to other races,” he added.

On a related issue, Awang Tengah urged the Babulang Festival organiser, Persatuaan Bisaya Sarawak to use the digital platform to expand the reach of the festival throughout Sarawak.

“The usage of digital platform is certainly more widespread and will surely make this celebration widely known,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony were Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and Limbang Resident, Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fawzi.
