MIRI:  For disobeying the movement control order (MCO), seven senior citizens were brought to the Miri central police station (CPS) yesterday after they were found gathered at the Old Folks Street in Persiaran Kabor nearby Taman Jade Manis here at 10.15am.

The MCO has been announced by the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin earlier this week as part of the government’s efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, who was also present during the operation, those brought to CPS would be briefed on the importance of the MCO for the public’s health and to help contain the spread of Covid 19.

During the operation, police also seized two wooden benches from the area.

The Old Folks Street in Persiaran Kabor has been a popular spot for the city’s senior citizens to socialise.
