KUCHING: Sarawak should continue making demands from Putrajaya for the benefit of its people.

Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) chief Voon Lee Shan said while the allocation given to the state has doubled in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), he viewed that it was to cool down the people’s anger due to mistreatment towards Sarawak all these years.

“The proposed RM400 billion allocation for Sarawak by the federal government under the 12MP is a huge increase from the RM248.5 billion allocated under the 11th Malaysia Plan,” he said in a statement yesterday (Sept 29).

Voon urged the federal government to take one step further by repealing federal laws that were not benefitting Sarawak.

“The federal government can repeal the Petroleum Development Act 1974, Territorial Sea Act 2012 and the Continental Shelf Act 1966 and to return all our oil and gas resources back to Sarawak.

“Petronas should stop extracting our oil and gas immediately. Only by repealing all these legislations and stopping Petronas from extracting our oil and gas could we see some sincerity from the federal government to help Sarawak,” he said.

The PBK president said at the same time, the federal government should stop collecting taxes from Sarawak.

“It is justified that no more taxes should be collected from Sarawak because Sarawak has for the past 58 years given much of its wealth to develop Malaya.

“If the federal government is sincere to develop Sarawak, the federal government should now allocate funds to repair all dilapidated schools and to improve infrastructures in Sarawak.

“All Malayan federal government officers should be withdrawn from Sarawak as soon as possible and the posts be filled by Sarawakians,” he said.

He also urged for the federal government to restore Sarawak Rangers and Sarawak Constabulary as soon as possible.

“Without all these done, Sarawakians should not place much hope on federal government’s sweet talk to help Sarawak,” he said.
