Dennis Ngau is new STB chairman

KUCHING:  Telang Usan assemblyman, Dennis Ngau has been appointed new chairman of the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).

Other newly appointed members of the board are permanent secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Antonio Kahti Galis, executive chairman of Kiasan Engineering Sdn Bhd Mohamad Taufik Abdul Ghani  and chairman of Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lee Khoi Yan.

Their appointments, effective July 1 this year, are  for a period of two years.

STB recently threw a welcoming dinner for the new chairman  and  board members at  Imperial Hotel Kuching.

“It is a great pleasure and honour to welcome these new faces to the STB Board and we are delighted to be working together with them,” said STB chief executive officer (CEO), Sharzede Datuk Salleh Askor in a statement issued on Thursday (Aug 6).

“STB has continuously engaged and discussed with tourism partners the challenges and potential opportunities for the reopening of our tourism sector and we are now ready with a revised strategic plan for the post Covid-19 period.

“I am confident with the new leadership and  support of the new board members, we will be able to bring Sarawak to the forefront  despite these challenging times.”

 Also present at the  dinner were  the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, permanent secretary to  theMinistry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak, Hii Chang Kee, STB’s ongoing board of directors, staff and management.

In her statement, Sharzede also said STB was looking into a recovery plan referred to as the 3R Phase Strategy — Rebuilding and Relief, Recovery Collaboration and Redialing.

“This aims to facilitate and support Sarawak tourism industry players in re-strategising destinations beyond leisure tourism in alignment with the state’s direction,” she explained.
