Dept seeks parents of baby who dies

KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) is trying to reach out to the parents of a baby who died at Jelukong bus stop on Dec 4 to facilitate investigations into the case.

Its director Dr Ooi Choo Huck in a statement yetserday, said the department is trying to reach out to the baby’s parents to get more information pertaining to the case.

“We request that the parents of the baby contact the JKNS as soon as possible to assist with the investigation

“The cause of death is still under investigation and has yet to be determined.

“Hence, the department hopes the public will respect the family of the deceased by not making any speculations on the cause of death before the investigation is completed,” he said when referring to the viral news on social media on Monday (Dec 5).

According to the investigations, the three-month-old baby died in the bus while traveling with its mother from Sarikei to Kuching on Dec 4.

The mother noticed that her baby was not breathing when they stopped at the bus stop and the baby was taken to Betong Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Dr Ooi pointed out that physical and radiological examinations were performed on the baby.

“However, after discussions with police officers from Skrang police station, the baby’s family members and the hospital management, the post-mortem was not performed.

“The baby’s body was brought home and buried at the longhouse cemetery in Ulu Pakan, Sarikei,” he said.

On behalf of the department, Dr Ooi expressed his condolences to the entire family of the baby.
