Deputy minister praises teachers for taking part in innovation competition

SARIKEI: Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii commended the participation of 44 educators in the district-level Teacher Innovation Competition which featured the presentation and evaluation of 44 innovative projects by a panel of judges.

“I am very proud of all the teachers who have willingly stepped out of their comfort zones to participate in this competition. They have undertaken something very different from their usual routines.

“Congratulations, I say, for this impressive number of participants, and I hope it will continue to grow in the coming years,” he said during the certificate and awards presentation ceremony for the Teacher Innovation Competition 2023 here yesterday (Sept 27).

Huang, who is also the federal Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change deputy minister, stressed the importance of innovation in education, especially in the context of technology-driven learning.

He encouraged teachers to explore innovations that enhance digital education in line with the goals of the Ministry of Education (MoE).

“In this technology-driven education world, innovation can undoubtedly enhance the teaching and learning process.

“Teachers are advised to explore innovations that can enhance digital education in schools, in line with one of the main pillars of the MoE.

“I believe many teachers in our district have strong information and communication technology (ICT) expertise, which can help improve students’ academic achievements,” he added.

Huang also underscored the significance of Sarawak’s vision for progress by 2030, which hinges on data utilisation and innovation, driving economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and a sustainable environment.

In light of this, he expressed hope that the innovation competition would become an annual event, attracting even more teachers and ensuring that education remains relevant to the evolving needs of students.

He reiterated his commitment to support educators and the Sarikei District Education Office in their efforts to promote education in the district, especially in digitalisation.
