MIRI: Datuk Rosey Yunus has suggested that three rural primary schools in Saeh zone with low enrolment be merged into one.

The Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development said merging the three schools would allow better facilities to be provided and improve the quality of the schools.

The three ischools are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Mentali, SK Sungai Saeh and SK Rumah Undi.

Rosey also urged the 20 longhouse headmen within Saeh to discuss and communicate with one another to choose a suitable plot of land for the merged school.

“The 20 longhouse headmen must understand the need to merge these low enrolment schools,” Rosey said yesterday (June 23) during the Ngiling Tikai in Saeh.

Meanwhile, Sibuti Member of Parliament (MP) Lukanisman Awang Sauni also shared the same sentiment on the proposed merger.

He said it would help in terms of providing comprehensive education and produce more brilliant students in the future.

“We should follow what has been done at Skim Rancangan Sepupok, whereby schools with low enrolment are being merged. This project is expected for completion in 2024,” he said.

The event also saw both Lukanisman and Rosey contributing Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants of RM3,000 each to women bureaus and village development and security committees (JKKKs) from 20 longhouses within Saeh.

They also contributed RM10,000 and RM20,000 respectively to the Saeh development working committee.
