KUCHING: Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Willie Mongin will continue to urge the federal government to review the policy regarding Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel.

He said this was necessary, particularly improving the pay scale in recognition of their evolving roles as frontliners during the movement control order (MCO) period.

“We will continue to bring up the issues and challenges faced by firefighters in an effort to improve and enhance the department’s welfare.

“Firefighters are the first one at the scene. Besides putting out fires, they are also deployed during floods, search and rescue, to capture dangerous animals, traffic accidents, natural disasters and environmental pollution incidents,” he said at the handover of sanitisation equipment at the Bomba Academy in Bau yesterday.

Willie announced that he would provide assistance of RM5,000 to Bomba personnel stationed in his constituency.

The assistance, he said, was to help Bomba organise recreational activities for personnel.

“With the assistance of RM5,000, I hope this can help the department organise any kind of activity to help ease their stress,” he added.
