MIRI: A local man was detained at Miri Airport this early morning (Nov 19), after two bullets (shotgun ammunition) were found in his hand-carry luggage.

The arrest of the 38 year-old man was made by Malaysian Airport Berhad (MAB) auxiliary police unit after the bullets were picked up by X-ray scanner.

According to Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah, the airport’s security unit was alerted of the discovery after the x-ray machine showed an image of what appeared to be ammunition inside the suspect’s hand luggage.

The man was stopped by airport security around 6.30am during a security inspection.

It is understood that the man was supposed to board a flight to Lawas before his arrest.

Lim said the suspect claimed that the bullets were given to him by his friend as a gift.

He was later brought to Miri police station for questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960.
