KUCHING: Detention pond, which is under the flood mitigation plan is the proper solution to combat the flood within the Kampung Sinar Budi Baru and Taman Desa Wira.
Representative for Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dr Sim Kui Hian, Tan Kai stated the location for the detention pond will be identified.
“The project will start in the next three months, but at the same time we will begin with the drainage system.
“The cost of the project will be RM64 million, and we are hoping the concept of the detention pond would work,” he said.
He said this when asked by reporters after the meeting with representatives from Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and some of the residents of Kampung Sinar Budi Baru at its mosque in Kuching yesterday.
He also hoped that the plan would clarify some of the questions asked by the residents on the flood mitigation project.
When asked on the temporary solutions proposed during the meeting, he stated that the Sungai Maong Kanan would be widened.
“But that solution can help only a little; still we are trying our best to help these people.
“Whatever the temporary solution that we have, we will try to implement it, even if it is just a few per cent of it, we will try to help them,” he added
