KUCHING: The celebration of Maal Hijrah in Demak Laut Constituency aims to develop critical thinking and leadership skills among the villagers here, said its assemblyman, Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
He said its constituency this year has chosen Tabuan Melayu zone to celebrate Maal Hijrah with procession as well as other various programmes.
“We also hold programmes such as religious talks that are more towards spirituality, especially for Kampung Tabuan Melayu, which we need to change in terms of how they think, manage and lead their village.”
“Maybe we will also establish a tahfiz schools and centres (madrasah) in Kampung Tabuan Melayu for the youths as they are the future leaders,” he told the reporters when met during the celebration held at Darul Hajat Mosque today.
He also said that the participation for the event has received overwhelming responses, especially from the younger generations.
“The participation this time is very positive, involving many youths… But, we still have to limit only nine contingents with 300 participants, due to certain standard operating procedure (SOP),” he explained.
The programme also saw a procession, from Kampung Tabuan Dani to Kampung Tabuan SPC, which was about two kilometres.
