KUCHING: Police yesterday classified the demise of one 51-year-old Tan Joo Teck by hanging in his shophouse at Kota Sentosa as sudden death.
Padawan police confirmed that they received a call about a man who was found hanging in his office at Eng Kee Hardware at 12.12pm.
Tan has been a developer for the past 20 years and moved his office from Jalan Tun Abd Razak to Kota Sentosa three years ago.
According to his sister, she and his staff went to the office at 11.30am as he did not return home the night before. His car was left in the parking lot at his office.
When a worker opened the office door, he saw Tan lying near the edge of the staircase. He had hanged himself with a towel by tying it to an iron bar on the staircase.
His sister told police that Tan had suffered financial problem and feared that he would go bankrupt.
Police arrived at the shop at 1pm and Tan’s body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Initial investigation by the police did not find any foul play.
