SIBU: A Sibu Youth Innovation Centre will be built as one of the projects under the Sibu Urban Renewal Master Plan.

The project, according to Sibu Urban Renewal Master Plan Committee chairman Chieng Buong Toon, will cost about RM10 million.

On Wednesday (June 24), Chieng together with Sibu Municipal Council chairman (SMC) Clarence Ting proposed the project to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in the presence of Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The chief minister was here to inspect a new road, Jalan Kong Yit Khim, and the affordable housing project Rumah Spekra Permata (RSP) in Kemuyang.

SMC is the implementing agency for the project.

“This is the first project and I have received a letter of approval from the chief minister and the State Economic Planning Unit,” said Chieng.

The project, he explained, would be built in the Sibu Trade and Exhibition Centre and a consultant would be appointed soon to facilitate its implementation.

“The place will be renovated to accommodate the innovation centre. We hope to complete it within a year,” he said.

With the centre, youths in the town would be able to develop their innovative and creativity skills.
