KUCHING: Residents in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency must not be left behind in terms of the development that is taking place nationwide.

Its MP Datuk Willie Mongin said it was because of this that he remained committed to pledge his support for Perikatan Nasional’s nominee, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as premier.

“I will pledge my support based on these factors – for the political stability of the nation where the new federal government will focus on people-centric agendas.

“Secondly, I don’t want the residents in Puncak Borneo to be left out in terms of development and third, I don’t want the development plan for Sarawak up to 2030 to be dampened due to political crisis,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Aug 19).

In the same post, Willie who is from Bersatu said himself along with Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju would be going to Istana Negara to assert their support for the prime minister candidate.

On Wednesday night, it was reported that the King had called for the 114 MPs who signed statutory declarations to support Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the prime minister candidate to be present at the Istana Negara to verify their stand.

The lawmakers met the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in groups from 10am until 5pm yesterday.

Royal sources said the MPs were from Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) from Sabah and independents who had backed the Umno vice-president to be PM.

All the MPs had submitted their statutory declaration by the 4pm deadline on Wednesday to Istana Negara.
