Dewanita to hold carnival starting 29 April in Bintulu

KUCHING: Sarawak Bumiputera Women Entrepreneurs Chamber (Dewanita) will hold its DUBS Carnival in conjunction with pre-Gawai celebration on 29 April until 9 May at Paragon Street Mall, Bintulu.

This was disclosed by Dewanita State Chairman Hajah Juita Drap during a courtesy call to Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, yesterday.

Held at Baitulmakmur in Petra Jaya here, the objectives of the courtesy call were to introduce new line-up of Dewanita as well as to inform their activities for this year.

“Dewanita is established in 2010 with its main objective to realise the potential of Bumiputera women’s entrepreneurship and up to date, we already have about 600 members.

“In order to realise the women’s potential in entrepreneurship, we have planned to organise activities such as Business Networking 2017 to held on 20 May; Run for the Brave Heart on 17 September; Sarawak Women Entrepreneurs Conference 2017 on 21 and 22 October and Business Mission to Thailand on 9 November.

“Apart from that, we also plan to establish four new branches namely in Sibu, Lawas, Kapit and Serian,” she said, adding currently they already have five branches namely in Miri, Sarikei, Samarahan, Mukah and Bintulu.

Meanwhile, Fatimah commended Dewanita efforts in contributing to the participation of women in businesses.

“We see the development of our ladies from various categories of business such as food processing, health and beauty, construction as well as engineering.

“This is in line with the mission and vision of Dewanita which is to increase professionalism of Bumiputera women’s in businesses so that they can be economically viable, competitive and progressive in their business,” she pointed out.
