DGCC plans to open Damai Junior Golf Academy in near future

KUCHING: Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC) is planning to set up the proposed Damai Junior Golf Academy at its club premise with the aim to promote the game to more youngsters who have the potentials to become future champions. This was disclosed by DGCC general manager, Roslan Mohd Salleh who had expressed enthusiasm for the initiatives to encourage more youngsters to take up golf which can offer a promising career in both the local and international professional tours.

He said this during the closing and prize presentation ceremony of the recent inaugural DGCC Inter Age Golf Classic 2017 tournament which received encouraging response from the local golf fraternity, especially the senior members.

According to him, in addition to next year’s event, DGCC is planning to add the junior category to enable more young golfers to take on its course and encourage them to participate in the prestigious Sarawak Junior Open to be held there in 2018.

“For the year 2018, we want to promote our junior program and development activities…we are hoping to open a Damai Junior Academy soon while working hard on it before it is to be launch soon and hopefully in collaboration with the relevant State government agencies,” Roslan enthused.

Meanwhile, Daniel Yeo capped the year with another golf title after he emerged as overall champion in the gross event of DGCC Inter Age Golf Classic 2017 tournament after bagging a gross score of one over par 73. The nett category champion title was won by Muas Sebli who played with handicap 8 and carded a two under par 70.

The invited guests gross category was won by Dato Kho Kak Beng while Dato Ngieng Ping Wei bagged the nett category with a score of 79. The DGCC Inter Age Golf Classic 2017 tournament was divided into 10 categories based on the age-group classifications.

Pres ident of Sarawak Gol f Association (SGA), Hoan Kee Hock won the gross event in Category A with 88 strokes while Kuan Kim Hiung and Abdul Talip Borhan won the nett category with a score of 73. In the gross event of Category B, Jimmy Teo won first placing with 82 strokes while Wan Man Wan Hil and Jafar Sedek finished second and third placing respectively.

The nett event in Category B was won by Muas Sebli who defeated Dato’ Zamani Hamdan by just one stroke. In the gross event of Category C, Mohammad Lokman Mustaffa finished first placing with a score of 81 strokes on countback (OCB) followed by Johari Aman while the nett event was won by Daniel Yeo followed by Shukri Morshidi.

The gross event of Category D was won by Zaharuddin Sabang with a score of 91 while the nett event was won by Abd Kassim Abdul Wahid with a score of 71 while Mohd Ghaddafie Zamani came in second. The gross event of Category E was won by Benjamin Ethan who scored 85 while the nett category was won by young golfer Aiman Zuhairi Othman who edged Rachel Shane Raymond on countback.

The prizes for the DGCC Inter Age Golf Classic 2017 tournament were sponsored by Dato’ Kho Kah Beng, MST and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).
