DGCC to host Johor golfers in friendly meet on April 14

KUCHING:  More than 100 golfers from Johor and club members of Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC) will come here to take part in the DGCC-Palm Resort Golf Club Tournament at DGCC, here, on April 14.

DGCC’s general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh said the friendly tournament is part of the club’s reciprocal agreement which will be entered with Palm Resort Golf Club of Johor Bahru.

“This is the first time the golfers from Johor Bahru are coming to our club and they will be playing golf for first time here,” he said on the event which is being held to foster cordial relations between between DGCC members and Palm Resort golf club members.

“We are satisfied with the encouraging response towards the event, a prelude to the reciprocal agreement signing ceremony during the closing and prize presentation ceremony later on the same day,” said Roslan.

He said DGCC members can look forward to playing at Palm Resort Golf Club in Johor Bahru which is one of the popular clubs there and vice versa after both clubs officially entered the agreement.

“Many golfers from Johor Bahru have heard about us after we hosted last year’s Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour championships which were participated by over 300 professional golfers from throughout the world,” he added.

The course at the club has improved after the end of the monsoon season and the club has been visited by an increasing number of golfers, particularly its members who had also taken part in various inhouse tournaments including this month’s edition of the DGCC-KKB Monthly Escalation Medal (MEM).

In the Nett category, Jimmy Tan Kheng Chiang who played with handicap 16 emerged champion with a score of two under par 70 and the victory also gave him five MEM points. The second placing went to Hardy Abu Bakar who played with handicap 12 and carded a par golf 72 while Fiteri Ismail finished third placing after he carded 73 on countback.

In the Gross category, Iskandar Mat Jani who played with handicap eight finished first placing after he defeated Michael Lee Joon Khiong with 81 strokes while Roslan Mohd Salleh finished third placing with five strokes adrift.

But it was Abang Zaidi Abg Bolhassan who stole the limelight of the prize presentation ceremony after he bagged two Nearest to the Pin awards at Hole 5 and 8. The other winners were Jimmy Tan and Sapawi Muhi.

The winner for Nearest to the Line (NTL) prize was Jaafar Dawi with a distance of 24 cm at Hole 3 while Jaafar Mustapha won the Longest Drive (LD) with a distance of 220.8m at Hole 18.
