MIRI: Following the confusion over the boundaries for fishing activities within the Miri-Sibuti Coral Reef National Park, a dialogue was held on Monday (Jan 17).

The meeting was chaired by Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

It involved the Sarawak Fishing Vessels Association (SFVA), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Department of Marine Fisheries Sarawak Region 3, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) as well as the Resident’s Office and District Office.

Lee suggested that SFC hold an engagement session and follow-up discussions with all the relevant parties to provide a more detailed explanation on the boundaries.

“Among the things that need to be clarified are the details on activities or prohibitions in the Miri-Sibuti Coral Reef National Park as well as what is allowed and the flexibility given to fishermen registered with the Department of Marine Fisheries Sarawak to catch fish within the Miri-Sibuti Coral Reef National Park area,” Lee explained.
