DID issues flood warning for six states

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) has issued a flood preparedness notice for Pahang, Johor, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak.

In a 5.30pm statement, it said the notice was issued based on rain forecast information provided by the Meteorological Department using the Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model and the Southeastern Asia-Oceania Flood Guidance System (SAOFFGS) on the possibility of flash floods due to heavy rain or a significant thunderstorm within 12 hours of the notice being issued.

It said in Pahang, the affected locations in the Rompin district included Kampung Ayau, Leban Chondong, Fisherman’s Housing, Kampung Setajam, Kampung Tanjung Pahang, Kampung Pianggu, Kampung Perpat, Kampung Gading and Kampung Sarang Tiong.

Meanwhile, in the Temerloh district the areas were Kampung Bangau Tanjung, Kampung Baru and Kampung Teluk Sentang in Kuala Krau; Kampung Batu Sawar, Kampung Berhala Gantang, Kampung Bintang, Kampung Bukit Lada, Kampung Desa Baru Purun, Kampung Jenderak, Kampung Kerai, Kampung Lubuk Kawah, Kampung Padang Tenggala, Kampung Tanjung Pandan, Kampung Peragap, Kampung Pulau Pasir Mandi, Kampung Sanggang and Taman Sri Desa, it added.

For Kuantan, the areas were Kampung Chendor, Kampung Cherating, Taman Balok Damai, Sri Mahkota, Padang Maju housing area, Kampung Chendering, Sungai Isap, Taman Galing, Kampung Sungai Tiram and Kampung Sungai Lembing.

In the Mersing district at-risk areas were Kampung Air Tawar, Kampung Semaloi, Kampung Asli Labong, Kampung Semanyir, Sungai Padang, Kampung Kuria Batu 4 in the Triang sub-district and Kampung Sungai Mengkuang, it said.

It added that in Muar, flash floods were expected to hit Kampung Parit Raja, Parit Keroma, Parit Keroma Darat, Taman Keroma, Kampung Kenangan TDI 5, Parit Haji Zain, Batu 15 Air Hitam, Kampung Parit Yaakup, Kampung Parit Karim Hulu, Kampung Parit Haji Zain, Kampung Parit Salmandan Kampung Parit Shafiee as well as Labis Park and Kampung Usaha Jaya in Segamat.

It also said that flooding might occur in Kampung Tanjung Gading Darat, Kampung Parit Gelugor, Kampung Gelugor, Parit Idrus, Kampung Anjung Batu, Taman Payamas and Kampung Pengkalan Besar.

The department also urged residents in Selangor, particularly in Kampung Teluk Gong, Taman Daya Meru and Pekan Meru to be prepared for possible flash floods.

It also said floods might hit Masjid Tanah and Kampung Jeram (Alor Gajah, Melaka) and Kampung Jimah, Kampung Sungai Sendayan, Kampung Janging and Kampung Sawah Sunggala, all located in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, it said the affected areas were Taman Bong Chin, Happy Valley, Taman Evergreen, Jalan Green Sports Complex, Central Park, Desa Wira and Kampung Gita in the Kuching district.

DID said the preparedness notice was issued to allow all residents to be aware of any possibility of flash floods within the period.

“Please follow the instructions of the authorities or flood disaster management agencies,” read the statement.
