KUCHING: Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) believes that the disclosure of information on Covid-19 patients is necessary to keep the public up to date.

In a statement issued today, the association said instead of criticising the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), everyone should remain united to curb the current pandemic.

SPA was referring to certain quarters that criticised the handling of the issue involving the patients’ occupation and location history in the daily statements of the SDMC recently.

“SPA believes that the disclosure of the information to the public is for the greater good so that they are kept in the loop and on their toes as there is still a real danger of Covid-19 spreading when an infected patient is in close contact with another person.

“All the more reason why we should all adhere strictly to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) which is meant for our own good in preventing the spread and minimising the impact of Covid-19,” it said.

SPA said it is also important that everyone addresses the social stigma implication on Covid-19 patients.

“The effects have greatly impacted the patients. We must remember that nobody wants to be infected with the virus and nobody wants to spread the virus.

“We all have a role to play in protecting our physical and mental health during this current pandemic.”

It added that there should be no finger pointing or blaming of patients and victims of the virus.

“We are all in this together. Let us support our family, friends, frontliners and others in the fight against Covid-19. We are stronger together,” it said.
