KUCHING: More than 10,000 hawkers will continue to enjoy discount on rental fees for their stalls under the purview of the local Councils.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in announcing this said the hawkers will enjoy the existing 50 percent discount until December.

“This assistance is expected to benefit more than 10,000 hawkers renting the market and stalls particularly under the purview of the Local Councils. This will cost the state government RM800,000,” he said.

Apart from the extension of rental fee discounts, the state government will provide a waiver of permits and licence fees to traders, hawkers, night marker traders and tamu operators.

“The waiver will benefit permits and licence holders in the various local authorities throughout Sarawak,” he told newsmen here today.

He said the initiative would help ease the burden of the traders and would cost Sarawak government RM4.12 million.

The chief minister also announced that the waiver of rentals to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating on premises owned by government-linked companies (GLCs) would continue until December.
