MIRI: An alternative road has been constructed at KM54 in Lambir, replacing a diversion road that collapsed on Feb 7.

The road is now passable to motorists, said Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

He said the state Public Works Department (JKR), upon receiving a report on the incident on Feb 7, immediately instructed the contractor of the Pan Borneo Highway project to restore the link road.

It was reported that more than 20 vehicles and trucks were stranded that day.

Meanwhile, according to Siaw Ming Chian, zone manager for JKRS Pan Borneo Highway (Northern), the foundation of the road was weakened by floods that occurred recently and was further damaged by passing overweight trucks.
