Divisional Health Office conducts ACD in Miri

MIRI: The Miri Division Health Office has taken 6,878 swabs, including those from private medical centres throughout this week, revealed Minister in charge of the Divisional Disaster Management Committee Datuk Lee Kim Shin on Saturday (May 15).

He added that health teams have been actively carrying out close contact tracings and active case detection (ACD) following a surge in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the district lately.

Miri division accounted for 154 positive cases reported in the state today with Miri district contributing 146 cases, Beluru five and Subis- three cases.

“We advise anyone with symptoms to go to the nearest clinics as soon as possible and for those who have been in contact with positive cases to undergo swab test on the date and time fixed by Miri Divisional Health Office,” Lee said.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) tightened its standard operating procedures (SOPs) in Miri recently which included no dine-in at eateries; prohibition for all sports and recreation activities, all forms of gathering and disallowing inter-district travels.

Lee appealed to members of the public to continue to comply with all the SOPs laid down by the government to help curb the spread of Covid -19.

“Please stay home as much as possible and do not go out unless very necessary,” he said.

He said MDDMC was viewing the situation very closely and would report daily to SDMC as well as implementing any further measures that SDMC might decide.

“We urge everyone in Miri to work very closely together in this difficult and challenging time to fight the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said, adding that the battle could only be won with the unity, close cooperation and support of the people as a whole.

“Our frontliners have been working very hard and tirelessly to help those affected by Covid-19. Many walked the extra mile — for example some worked until 2am to compile the swab results and sacrifice their holidays and time with their families,” Lee pointed out.

He appealed for support and cooperation of everyone to comply with all the SOPs laid down and always stay vigilant and practise the 3Ws (Wash hands, Wear face mask and Warn).
