KUCHING: Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said, “Do it the ‘Sarawak way’.
He said this in response to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent statement that the state government has to take the lead in projects (funding development projects) due to the federal government’s reluctance to support the state’s vision.
Showing his full support, he stated, “With all the broken promises and the cancellation of a few mega projects by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, certainly we cannot rely on them. It is a good move for the state government to finance projects that benefit the people.
“Let’s do it the ‘Sarawak way’ and we hope Sarawakians know how to judge them,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Meanwhile, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang described the federal government’s reluctance to fund state’s projects as unfair.
“Malaya takes RM250 million from Sarawak daily and gives us back only five percent. This is grossly unfair,” he said.
On Aug 4, Abang Johari was reported to have said, “If the federal government does not want to implement a project, so be it. We can do it by ourselves. This is not us being arrogant. We feel that we can develop the state better on our own.”
