KUCHING: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has called for a bigger effort in empowering women especially those involved in small and medium-sized businesses.

He said these groups of women should be assisted further so that they can develop their businesses and at the same time earn an additional income.

“On top of that, they need to be empowered through strengthening skills, technology and innovation,” he said when at a pineapple tart making course which was attended by 15 women at Kampung Haji Baki on Monday (Apr 3).

Lo however acknowledged that the government provides various assistance and incentives including training courses to help empower women to venture into doing business.

“The pineapple tart making course is also an initiative to help women in the Batu Kitang area to generate side income,” he said.
