SIBU: The longstanding Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has played a crucial role in the formation of Sarawak, earning undeniable respect.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the party’s dominant position in Sarawak will continue to be strengthened through its dedicated service to the people.

However, Nanta cautioned party members against complacency, taking things for granted, or resting on past achievements.

“Over time, we have witnessed the emergence of various other parties led by young individuals who have a broader and more comprehensive vision and see the future of this country’s politics from a bird’s-eye view, no longer confined to a narrow perspective,” he said when officiating at the PBB Youth Gawai Raya celebration here last night (June 24).

Nanta, who is also the Works Minister, expressed a positive perspective on this change in the political landscape, emphasising the need for a paradigm shift in both technological advancements and the thinking and intellectual capacity of the youth.

“It is true that without the old, there would be no new. That is the common way of life for all of us. Life in the political arena is no different. The old show us the way and share their experiences, while the new continue the spirit and torch of the struggle for our country and beloved Sarawak,” he said.

He stressed that the efforts of today’s young leaders need to be grounded in reality, as the leaders of today are not only evaluated based on their charisma, rapport with the people, concern, or empathy shown to the community and grassroots level.

“The people of today are also looking for young leaders who are intellectual and intelligent, with a clear vision to lead the people and the country towards the desired success,” said the Kapit Member of Parliament.

Also present were Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan, PBB Zone 9 Sibu Youth chief Johnny Sain, Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar, Datuk Temenggong Wan Hamid Edruce Tuanku Mohamad, and others.
