SIBU: People who smoke electronic cigarettes or vapes are reminded not to share their devices with others as doing so could cause Covid-19 to spread quickly from person to person.

Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said sharing the equipment has often been a habit of vape users before but the habit is no longer suitable nor safe during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I urge those concerned to stop the habit to prevent infection of the virus.

“I understand that there are people who share vape equipment. Therefore, I urge the youth in Sibu to stop sharing these tools as this is not the time to do so.

“Otherwise, you will be easily infected with Covid-19 by sharing vape devices,” he said yesterday.

Meanwhile, he reminded motorcyclists in the villages here about how easily the virus spreads from close contact.

With seven positive Covid-19 cases recorded in the Kampung Datu zone on Friday, the Education, Science and Technological Research assistant minister also explained that it was a clear signal to the youths to take precautions to avoid being infected.

He also informed that the vaccine which will be used in the first phase of the immunisation programme in the country is produced by Pfizer-BioNTech.

Dr Annuar who is also the coordinator of the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (JPBBS) has observed the contents of the vaccine, adding that those aged 18 and above will be vaccinated.

Dr Annuar said those with severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) or allergic reactions should not be vaccinated.

After updating on the vaccine’s anaphylaxis data, he stated that based on previous research, from 18 million vaccinations given, only 66 cases of allergies were reported.

“The vaccination has 95 percent effectiveness. This means that out of 100 people who have been vaccinated, 95 of them will be able to strengthen antibodies to fight Covid-19.

“There is no drug in the world that is proven to cure this disease 100 percent,” said the Nangka assemblyman.

Earlier, Dr Annuar also visited several roadblock locations (SJR) in the Durin area and had lunch with the frontliners.
