KUCHING: Students from Pantai Damai constituency who study in institutions of higher learning (IPT) were strongly urged to focus on their studies and positive influences.

“I advise you to make full use of the three to four years of your courses to focus on nothing else but your studies,” said Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi when disbursing pocket money to the students during a ceremony at Dormani Hotel in Jalan Ajibah Abol yesterday.

“While doing that you need to adapt to life in your new learning environment so that you can overcome obstacles that prevent you from moving forward.

Dr Abdul Rahman who is also Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Office for Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) told them not to think of the three to four years as either long or short, but consider them an important phase of their lives on their way to become proud graduates.

A total of 100 first semester students from public and private institutions received their pocket money from Dr Abdul Rahman who explained that the incentives were recognition for the students’ hard work.

He also told them that the incentives were gifts to their parents who have been selfless and supportive of their school-going children.

“We have a slogan in Pantai Damai Education Bureau, which is ‘One family one graduate’. We also want our students to be prepared for the future,” he said.

On future challenges and obstacles, he said most of them could only be properly and efficiently tackled through proper education.

“For example, seeing that the future will be filled with lots of modern technologies, we want our students to be skillful and knowledgeable,” he said.

Lastly, he hoped that none of the students would drop out of their studies in the future, but study hard to make themselves and their parents proud.
