Donation campaign for school held at market

SIBU: The “one person, one ringgit” donation campaign to help raise funds for Citizen Middle School continued on Sunday (Dec 6) at Rejang Park Market.

The funds are to help the school rebuild its hostel which was gutted by fire on Oct 23.

Deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) Wong Ching Yong, who headed the campaign, accompanied by others including chairman of the school board of management Kapitan Fung Tai Shen. visited market and the surrounding shops to appeal for donations.

Wong, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch chairman, said this was the sixth donation campaign initiated by the branch. 

He said RM2 million was needed to rebuild the school hostel.

At the close of the donation campaign at Rejang Park Market and its surrounding commercial shops, Wong revealed that a sum of RM1,610 had been raised.  

He revealed the total amount of money collected so far stood at RM156,266.76.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, represented by Wong, also contributed RM10,000 to the fund.

A cheque for the amount was handed over to Fung.

Wong added that the campaign would be held at Sg Merah Market and the surrounding commercial shops next Sunday (Dec 13).
