KUCHING: Lee Kong Shin, chairman of the Kuching City Scout Council presented a personal donation of RM2,000 to Matang Scout-Girl Guide Camp Restoration Fund last Thursday.

He also handed over contributions from other members and Kuching City Scout Council totalling RM6,000.

Built in 1989 at the foot of Gunung Serapi, the Matang Scout-Girl Guide Camp has fallen to vandalism and its basic infrastructure has deteriorated over the years.

The initial restoration work started early last month under the new management at the scout headquarters and a team from the Sarawak Scouts Council.

Numerous generous members of the public, particularly entrepreneurs, have contributed funds to the council to restore the camp as a training facility.

The donations were handed over by the Sarawak Scouts Commissioner Captain Zainuddin Tan Seri Hamdan.

Zainuddin said he was grateful to the Kuching City Scouts Council for the donation and urged all District Scouts Councils to emulate the council’s initiative in raising funds for the restoration work.

Also present at the function were executive secretary of the Sarawak Branch of the Malaysia Scouts Association Zasran Abdullah, honorary secretary of Kuching City Scouts Council Peter Chong, council treasurer Richard Teo, and Kuching City Scouts District Commissioner Ng Ah Luke.
